Save Money By Purchasing These Used Auto Parts

Do you own a vehicle that needs repairs? Have you taken your car to the mechanic only to be told that the cost for the parts that you need are too high for your budget? Fortunately for you and your wallet, many auto parts can actually be acquired used. This can save you a significant amount of money over the cost of a new part from the dealer, bringing your repair bill back down into a range that you can afford. Here are some of the parts that you can get used.

Doors, panels, windows: If you've never had to replace any of these parts before, you may be surprised to find out exactly how much they can cost when purchased new. Depending on the make and model of your vehicle, you could be looking at several hundred dollars just for the parts, not including labor. But if you have a mechanic that's willing to install used parts, an auto-salvage yard such as Southwest Auto Salvage may have the piece you need for a fraction of the cost of new. Even though panels and doors will likely need to be painted eventually so as to match the rest of your vehicle, you could still be looking at a significant amount of savings.

Alternator: As an alternator ages, its wiring becomes cracked, and the unit is no longer able to charge your battery. If your battery isn't holding a charge, it's possible that the fault actually lies in your alternator. However, replacing an alternator with a brand-new one could cost you around $1,000. But if you can find an auto-salvage yard that sells warrantied reconditioned alternators, you should be able to get your alternator replaced for about half that cost. Make sure to get one that has been reconditioned, not one that has simply been pulled from another vehicle, or else you could be facing the same issue again in the near future.

Interior parts: Powered seats and mirrors may seem like a needless luxury to some people, but they are standard in many modern vehicles. But if the motors that allow you to adjust these things starts to die, it will become difficult to safely drive your vehicle. Fortunately, seats and windows can be the same for different models that have been made by the same manufacturer, making it even easier for you to find replacement parts at your local auto-salvage yard. But be sure to confirm the year of the parts with the mechanic who will be handling the installation before you make a purchase. The difference of just one year can sometimes mean that different parts, ones that won't fit your vehicle, were used in the manufacture.
